About Phamily Steppers

A beat-aligned community, since 2011

Phamily Steppers is a Los Angeles-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit devoted to Chicago Style Steppin’ — a structured, improvisational partnered dance built around music’s central pulse. What might look like ordinary “huckin’ and buckin'” to an outsider is, in our classes, disciplined footwork held in harmony with a partner and the Beat.

Physical health

Mental health

Stress reduction through joyful, rhythmic movement.

Social health

Partnering that rebuilds community connection.

Why choose Phamily Steppers

"A vibrant Steppin' community that shows off the beauty of the dance — and the discipline of listening to one another."

Our Mission

Health, self-expression, and community — in that order.

Phamily Steppers began in 2010 as a small circle of dancers in Los Angeles who wanted Steppin’ to mean more than a night out. Under founder Samuel L. Parker, Sr., that circle grew into a registered nonprofit — one that treats the dance floor as a place for healing as much as celebration.

Raise Awareness

We treat dance as public health — sharing what Steppin’ does for the body, mind, and nervous system with the communities we serve.

Close the Gap

Free and low-cost classes in areas with limited access to healthcare, so wellbeing never depends on insurance or income.

Work Across Sectors

Partnering with nonprofits, healthcare providers, and local government to bring movement-based care to more neighborhoods.
